Don’t underestimate what you already know

We all do it.

We think that we ‘don’t know much’, or that we only know ‘what everyone else knows’. This is the blight of ‘common sense’ :)

Sometimes it takes a new situation, a meeting in a new context, or simply being asked the right questions, for you to realise what you DO know and that it IS of value and that YOUR common sense isn’t everyone else’s.

You always have the answer (you just need to say it clearly)

There’s detail that you notice that other people don’t. There’s elements that are invisible to others that are in plain sight to you. There are steps, ideas, processes, projects that to everyone else don’t make sense or don’t even occur in their thoughts. All this is your Thing. But even though you may ‘see’ all this, if you can’t talk about it clearly then it’s going to be hard to sell

Buying a course doesn’t make it happen

Now, hands up, I’ve got a very good selection of online courses in my collection of which a fair few (OK, pretty much all of them) haven’t been totally completed. Sometimes I buy them when they’re on special as I’ll ‘need them later’ (which is sometimes true), or I buy them as it’s something I think I ‘should be doing’ (and often actually I don’t do…). That is not to say I never log in to online courses and follow the content–as I do. And sometimes I’m even a really good student–watching every class, asking questions and getting the most from the content. But the point is always that the courses themselves don’t fix anything on their own–you have to do the work.

Tell people what to do!

Sometimes you need to s-p-e-l-l it out to your clients and prospects what you want them to do. Now of course I don’t mean this in a shout-out-instruction-like-a-sergeant-major type way (!), but in a ‘make it nice and easy and clear what to do next so you are gently corralling people in the right direction’.

Why not now?

I often issue a challenge to my clients. It goes something like this… “that sounds good—so why don’t you do it now?”

Yes of course you can plan and over plan and do it ‘perfectly’ in a few weeks (ahem, months) time, but you could also do it now.
