When you know what you’re looking for, it’s easy to see opportunities. They are right there, slap bang in front of you.
I call this "Switching on your opportunity radar".
It’s also The Law of Attraction working in your favour...
For example, I know EXACTLY what an ideal client looks like for my business (technically, they all ‘look’ different but they ‘present’ with the same problem they’d like solved). So when one sits down next to me and starts talking to me, or emails me, or messages me on Facebook, I know to have ‘that’ conversation. ‘That’ conversation is the one where I ask them to make a decision to do something about finding their Thing or not (in case you were wondering—it’s nothing sinister!).
When you know what you’re looking for, it’s easy to see. So set your radar to spot:
- The clients you want to work with
- The product or services gap you can fill
- A price point that’s not being offered
- The conversations you can contribute to
- Interviews you can take part in
- Speaking gigs that have your name on
- A place at the table you need to be at
Have a checklist of where, when and how you can help and you’ll ALWAYS see opportunities. But if you’re not clear it’s quite hard for you to see anything...
Your radar is your reticular activating system (get me and my fancy science reference!)—it’s what sorts all the information being sent to you and your brain (apart from smells, apparently). Once you tell it what to look for, it will see it everywhere. Ever decided you want something (a particular car/handbag/gadget) and you see it once then see it everywhere—that’s because you’ve put it on your radar. Spooky stuff, but use it to your advantage! It’s perfect spotlight marketing—subliminal radar that searches out exactly what you’re looking for.
But like any good tool it needs instructions, so make sure you are SUPER-CLEAR on what you do, who you do it for, how you do it, what it does, how it helps, when and why it’s needed and you’ll start to ‘see’ all the opportunities to do your Thing.
