Everyone has a different Act

You might DO the same thing as someone else—you might have the same skill or qualification—but everyone’s Thing (with a capital ‘T’) is different.

When you realise that your Act is different to everyone else’s, you have a Monopoly in your marketplace. You become the only person that does what you do the way you do it. Or, put it another way, if people want to come and see YOUR act they have to come and see YOU.

There comes a time with every idea that you need to get on with it. Of course you want to plan, work out the details, explore the options, do some research, perhaps even do a little bit of learning to make sure you’re all set. BUT there will come a time when you simply need to get on with it.

Drowning not waving…

It’s all about perspective.

I always say that your Thing is your filter on the world and how you see things differently. That’s why your Thing is very often a different way of working, a different order, different detail, different language or a different approach entirely to how something is done. It’s your take on the world, not necessarily a brand spanking new eureka moment Thing. Which of course is all about perspective.

Sometimes when your perspective is very different to everyone else around you it can be hard to share. Perhaps you don’t want to ‘stand out’ or be different. For many of us it’s inbuilt not to be a show off or get noticed to much. Certainly in my life experience that didn’t always end well (it does now, but not back then).

Location Location Location (where it matters)

Apart from being one of my favourite telly shows (who doesn’t love a bit of Kirstie and Phil banter while snooping round other people’s houses?), Location Location Location is an important consideration too when working out where to sell your products and services. I’m not an expert in Retail, but I know enough to know it’s important to choose a location that works–lots of foot traffic, easy parking–that sort of thing. And location is as important when you offer a service too.
