I ask this question a lot.
I ask myself, I ask my clients, and I ask (in my head!) this on behalf of people I see who are stuck, or afraid, or unsure. The reason I ask this question a lot is that sometimes there isn’t actually a ‘good’ reason to wait. There may well be an excuse (or lots of excuses) but very often, when it really comes down to it, there isn’t actually a real reason.
So what are you waiting for?
- What are you waiting for to do your 'Thing'?
- What are you waiting to ‘happen’ so you can get out there and do what you are brilliant at?
- What are you waiting for so you can do what you’ve always known you want to do?
- Are you 'waiting' for your ideal clients to show up?
- Who are you not marketing to that you really know you should be...?
Sometimes this is about something small – something you’ve been ‘meaning to do’ for ages – to call someone, send an email, go visit somewhere, see or do something. And sometimes it’s something really big – a career you want to give up, a new business you want to start, or a new launch.
I am sure there is something that you are waiting to do…
A good way to get into the habit of not waiting (not to be confused with being impatient, by the way!) is to start ticking off things on the ‘been meaning to do’ list.
I just ticked something off my ‘meaning to do for ages' list this past weekend when I went horse riding. I actually LOVE horse riding. I used to have a pony then a horse when I was younger and love riding through gorgeous scenery while chatting away to my steed (yes, that’s right - I talk to horses!).
But somehow going riding had fallen into my ‘waiting for’ list. I am not actually quite sure what I was waiting for – the right ‘occasion’, someone to go with me, the time, I don’t know. What I know is I see the riders on the beach all the time and I always wish I was one of them. So I made a decision. I was going to stop waiting and do. Turns out all you have to do is pick up the phone and book on the ride… :)
So pick up the phone or write that email to who you need to about what you’re waiting for. As actually not only is there probably not a good reason for not doing what you want to, but actually it’s going to be easier than you think to make it happen.
Say yes to getting help, making it happen, doing your 'Thing', getting back on that horse (literally if you’re me!).
Just stop waiting and do.
