Anything that gets you in front of the right people at the right time, with the right message that connects with them and they are in a position to take action, is good marketing (in the world of business according to me).

For me, it’s also about being consistent—consistent in your message and your communications.

And if you are a hairdresser and you want your hair cut, I’m thinking you’d want to go find someone ‘just like you’ to cut it, right? So the same principle applies when you’re looking for help with your business or marketing: ask someone who is as brilliant as you (including myself in this now!).

Putting the lipstick on

Sometimes what I do is just ‘putting on lipstick’. Your Thing might be like that too?

My Thing is that I ‘find’ people’s Things–I don’t create them/make them/invent them as they are already there. But what I do (as an outsider, which makes it a lot easier) is to ‘see’ what people don’t see for themselves. And then the next stage is usually to tidy it all up and ‘put on lipstick’.

Give them what they want (but make it what they need)

You should always be listening to your market and offering products and services they want. That’s common business sense. That said, sometimes you may know that what they (your market) ‘want’ is not what they ‘need’. The trick here is a to strike a balance and meet them where they are, then gently ‘steer’ them to where you know lies a better answer.
