Buying a course doesn’t make it happen

Now, hands up, I’ve got a very good selection of online courses in my collection of which a fair few (OK, pretty much all of them) haven’t been totally completed. Sometimes I buy them when they’re on special as I’ll ‘need them later’ (which is sometimes true), or I buy them as it’s something I think I ‘should be doing’ (and often actually I don’t do…). That is not to say I never log in to online courses and follow the content–as I do. And sometimes I’m even a really good student–watching every class, asking questions and getting the most from the content. But the point is always that the courses themselves don’t fix anything on their own–you have to do the work.

Being nicely irritating

There’s something about marketing that many people don’t like. And that’s doing it too much.

There’s nothing that sends people into a bit of a panic more than when is enough enough? how many is too many times? and what if I’m being annoying?

Because you’re never going to please all of the people all of the time, doesn’t mean you can’t please some of the people some, if not most, of the time if you are talking to the right ones.

Don’t underestimate what you already know

We all do it.

We think that we ‘don’t know much’, or that we only know ‘what everyone else knows’. This is the blight of ‘common sense’ :)

Sometimes it takes a new situation, a meeting in a new context, or simply being asked the right questions, for you to realise what you DO know and that it IS of value and that YOUR common sense isn’t everyone else’s.
