When Less is More

I am a bit of a stuck record on this–do LESS types of marketing but do them MORE. Trying to do every type of Marketing you can think of is going to exhaust you (and your Marketing budget, too!). Unless you have a big team of marketers working for you trying to get every single type of marketing working, or a huge budget to spend with agencies, chances are you’ll be spreading yourself too thin and not getting the impact you want to.

When clarity is everything

I get like this–when I can’t ‘see’ clearly, I stall. Sometimes it’s what to do next, sometimes it’s a name of programme, or a venue, or a price, or a marketing message. It could be big barrier or it could be a small stumbling block, but if I can’t see clearly ‘what’ or ‘how’, I can get stuck.

The Business of Helping

Most businesses are in the business of ‘helping’–helping other businesses, helping people, helping society, helping the world, some kind of ‘helping’ is usually the result of what they do. Whether that’s helping with a product, system or service… it’s usually there to ‘solve a problem’.

So why is this important to understand? In Marketing terms, it’s important that you absolutely know and can demonstrate the ‘problem’ that you solve and how you ‘help’.

Be willing

I was talking the other day with a client about ideal clients (as I always do!) and was asked in return what my ideal client is. And my answer surprised me as it was so simple – I said my ideal client has to be willing.

Knowing that you want to do more, or grow, or change direction is enough – the only other thing you need is willingness. Fear is bound to come up as new and different things can be scary (I am scared all the time) BUT the way to overcome fear is tackle it head on – so you need to be willing to do this!

Start big, sell small

This is something I encourage when working with clients who find the concept of ‘upselling’ somewhat icky. It’s actually something I encourage even if they like selling, as for me it’s sensible and smart, and sets out your full Thing (even if then people choose to buy less of it).
